Role Description The Duty Medical Officer is a full-time, on-site position based at VG Hospital in Coimbatore. The role involves providing continuous medical coverage, assessing patients in wards and emergency departments, and ensuring timely clinical interventions under established protocols. Daily responsibilities include conducting patient rounds, documenting clinical findings, prescribing and reviewing treatments, and coordinating with consultants and nursing staff for comprehensive care. The Duty Medical Officer will manage admissions and discharges, respond to emergencies, assist in stabilization and pre-operative preparation, and support post-operative monitoring as needed. The position also includes participating in clinical discussions, maintaining accurate medical records, and adhering to hospital policies, safety standards, and NABH guidelines.
Qualifications
- Strong foundation in Medicine, with the ability to assess, diagnose, and manage common inpatient and emergency conditions.
- Demonstrated Patient Care skills, including empathetic communication, clinical monitoring, and timely escalation of care.
- Experience or interest in Training activities, such as guiding junior staff, interns, or nursing teams on clinical protocols.
- Exposure to Surgery settings, including pre- and post-operative patient management and assistance with minor procedures.
- Proven ability in Working with Physicians, including effective coordination with consultants and multidisciplinary teams.
- Recognized medical qualification (e.g., MBBS) from an accredited institution; valid registration with the relevant medical council.
- Ability to work in rotational shifts, handle emergencies, and maintain composure in high-pressure situations.
- Good clinical documentation skills and familiarity with hospital information systems are an advantage.
- Prior experience in a multi-speciality or NABH-accredited hospital setting is preferred but not mandatory.
